The Art & Science of the Self-Tape

Master the 'Junction Point' for Entry into the Industry and Make Your Transition!

The self-tape is the only part of the casting process where the actor has any control. One high-quality tape, at the right time and place, has the potential to change both your career and your life…

With multi award-winning director, John Osborne Hughes.

The Junction Point: Your Time to Shine!

The final junction point / gateway between not being a working professional actor and being one ultimately comes down to the quality of the self-tapes you submit.

It makes no difference who your agent is or which directors you get in front of if you can't consistently come up with the goods. The modern acting business is all about the self-tape - it is your genuine shot at actually landing the gig.

The two hour seminar will introduce you to the philosophy, principles and psychological techniques of great acting and is guaranteed to inspire and show you how to progress to the next level with your craft.

Why Your Tapes Aren't Booking (And It's Probably Not What You Think)

Casting directors essentially respond to two things - Good acting and the actors own quality of being and presence.

  • The Trap: Trying to be ‘right’ or ‘good’ instead of just ‘being’ the character.
  • The Block: Self-consciousness of your performance with doubt and attachment to the result.
  • The Result: A performance that feels either forced or flat.

Master Your Craft with Active Embodiment Technique

I developed the Active Embodiment to go beyond outdated acting cliches and superficial training. I will give you the tools to quickly analyse and authentically embody both the characters general and immediate psychology within any scene - allowing you to confidently deliver a compelling and original performance that’s grounded in being and substance, every time.

From the Inner Work to The White Lotus

One of the many great joys of training actors is when you're watching a film or TV show and one of your former students pops up on the screen.

I finally got round to watching White Lotus 3 recently and was delighted to see former graduate, Sarah Catherine Hook doing such an excellent job. Sarah Catherine trained with me for two years from 2020-22. She was a talented and dedicated student who fully embraced the inner work of our training. She asked all the right questions and stayed committed to the process of self-discovery required for true transformation.

The Active Embodiment Technique fully clicked for her when I coached her for her role in The Conjuring 3. Like most of my students, once that psychological source code falls into place, career traction becomes inevitable.

Simple practical exercises will be introduced to assimilate the basic techniques.
Each session starts with meditation and a reading to help focus your attention
All intro seminars are hosted on zoom & recorded in case you are unable to attend live.

Inside the Two-Hour Masterclass: You Will Learn

  • The Junction Point Philosophy: Why this is your only true moment of real power.
  • The Science of Presence: How to emanate the ‘wattage’ that makes Casting Directors stop scrolling.
  • Psychological Analysis: Four key questions to help you stop performing and start being the character.
  • The Joy of the Process: Why exploring the human psyche is the most enlightening and rewarding work you’ll ever do!

About Your Mentor: John Osborne Hughes

John is multi award-winning director, widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential acting teachers working in the industry today. With over 30 years of experience directing and teaching in London, NYC and LA, he has developed the Spiritual Psychology of Acting, a unique system that merges the cutting-edge science of authentic character creation with the timeless wisdom of Eastern philosophy.

A 4th-Generation Stanislavski Lineage

Grounded in modern psychology and universal wisdom, John’s teaching is a direct evolution of the world’s most successful acting tradition. He was a protégé of Ukrainian director and acting coach, Sam Kogan, who was himself a student of Maria Knebel - one of Stanislavski’s closest collaborators and the woman entrusted to carry his final experiments into the future.

When you train with John and learn his ground-breaking Active Embodiment Technique you are accessing a refined, scientific lineage; stripped of the misinterpretations of Stanislavski’s work often taught in traditional drama schools.

The Results Speak for Themselves

John’s techniques are the secret weapon behind some of the most consistent performers in the industry. His students are currently working on major Hollywood features, Prime-Time TV and West End productions.

"Honestly, no other training I have done has been as detailed or as clear as this. I strongly recommend this class if you are looking to understand, not just the art of acting and creating characters, but yourself on a deeper level!"
